15th May 2007 was the worst day
of life and I still remember it with so much hurt and pain.
“Henry; boys, men and the male gender is
wicked” I voiced out in agony. “Because of their evil sexual desires and lust,
they ruined the life of a young girl and terminated all her hopes and dreams.
They ensnared me into a life of sadness, unhappiness and guilt” I continued in
a bitter tone.
“Simi, I know how you feel and trust me,
until you forgive those men you will forever remain hurt” Henry spoke with
intense peace radiating in his eyes
“What do you mean? You don’t know how much
they hurt me? You don’t even know half of the psychological damage that they
did to me? You don’t....”
“Shhh” Henry whispered lovingly. Before I
could angrily respond, he spoke out gently “I’ve been there before and mine was
a case of rape by our house-girl when I was just eight (8) years old”
I stared at him in shock and disbelief.
“Trust me when I say that until you forgive them, you can never have your
sanity back” he interjected immediately.
“But they hurt me” I whispered gently in
tears.
“Yes they did! But your restoration from
hurt, pain, anguish, bitterness only begins when you let go and let God” Henry
muttered gently
“How do you me I let God?” I asked with a
puzzled look on my face.
“It’s simple really, forgive them and leave
them to God”. Henry looked into my eyes and continued “Forgiving them is
freeing yourself from the hurt they caused you and allowing God to deal with
them on your behalf”.
For the first time in my life, someone made
a whole lot of sense and I could identify on what I referred to as “the
beginning of my healing process”.
“I forgive them Henry!” I cried out loud.
Henry stood up, raised me up and gave me a hug. Instantly, I felt a kind of
strange peace within my soul and at that moment, I boldly spoke out “15th
May 2007 can never hunt me again”
This piece is dedicated to you and the millions of young Nigerians who are justifiably angry, but who dare to desire a New Nigeria. I believe it is possible.
I desire a Nigeria where every Nigerian child has access to quality education; a country with some of the best universities in the world that would bring forth ideas that would stun the ends of the earth. I desire a Nigeria where our graduates will be worthy of their degrees, not recipients of “sexually transmitted degrees”
I desire a Nigeria where her people die in the presence of loved ones rather than in lonely foreign hospitals; a country that would break boundaries in the field of medicine. I desire a Nigeria that would treat foreigners as well as her own.
I desire a Nigeria that i would 'google' images of and see beautiful people, wonderful landscapes, excellent economic analysis, well organised government system, not hungry children, wounded men and women, riots and flooded roads, crowded streets and dump sites .(well, try it and see!)
I desire a Nigeria that would not only win gold medals during the Olympics but also host the Olympics proudly and gallantly.
I look forward to a Nigeria where every citizen and, even, foreigners would take pride in. An icon in the league of nations, a country where poverty will be at the barest minimum; a nation of outstanding inventors, producers and manufacturers, and not a nation of only consumers.
I desire a new Nigeria!
Happy 53rd Independence Day!!
Feel free to add your desires for this great country in the comment box..

I desire a Nigeria with an ever efficient and effective aviation sector, where there will be no air disasters and no flight delays; and airlines will ensure that their flights are on schedule, and if there are delays the airlines will tell passengers the exact reasons rather than the nonsensical “operational reasons”. I desire a society where customers will be queens and kings. I desire an aviation sector that will be planned for a growing population. I desire a country that renovates and builds airports for today and tomorrow. I desire the day when it will take passengers at our international airports less than 10 minutes to go through immigration. I desire a functional rail system and motorable roads, with the resultant decline in road accidents.
I dream of a Nigeria where human life is worth something, where human rights are respected, where good governance, right to life, security, and environmental safety are the norm rather than the exception.
I desire a Nigeria devoid of celebrated corruption; a nation with responsive and responsible leadership; a country with diligent and committed followership and a country that detests unnecessary call for 'hurray!' when it is not yet 'uhuru'.
I desire a Nigeria of free and fair elections; a country that does not see assumption of political office as a do-or-die affair.
I desire a Nigeria where the Coat of Arms means a lot, where the anthem is not sang for naught, where the currency is not bought, where the flag is without blot, where the motto calms down wrath, where the leaders have the led in thought. I desire a Nigeria where its leaders would have a better way of settling disputes other than hitting each other with The Mace .
I desire a Nigeria with citizens being equal, where parental connections won’t be the ticket, where I see men boasting of three square meals, graduates smiling a their work places, I see the green in our flag showing on our lands.
I desire a Nigeria in which the primary objective of the men of God is to save souls and not to get population and collect offertory from large congregations. I desire a Nigeria where all religious leaders eat from one bowl, knowing its one God they all serve.
I desire a Nigeria that i would 'google' images of and see beautiful people, wonderful landscapes, excellent economic analysis, well organised government system, not hungry children, wounded men and women, riots and flooded roads, crowded streets and dump sites .(well, try it and see!)

Below is a Speech I stumbled upon and I felt the need to share it.. I actually find it very funny...
"Graduates of Yale University, I apologize if you have endured this type of prologue before, but I want you to do something for me. Please, take a good look around you. Look at the classmate on your left. Look at the classmate on your right. Now, consider this: five years from now, 10 years from now, even 30 thirty years from now, odds are the person on your left is going to be a loser. The person on your right, meanwhile, will also be a loser. And you, in the middle? What can you expect? Loser. Loserhood. Loser Cum Laude.
"In fact, as I look out before me today, I don't see a thousand hopes for a bright tomorrow. I don't see a thousand future leaders in a thousand industries. I see a thousand losers.
"You're upset. That's understandable. After all, how can I, Lawrence 'Larry' Ellison, college dropout, have the audacity to spout such heresy to the graduating class of one of the nation's most prestigious institutions? I'll tell you why. Because I, Lawrence "Larry" Ellison, second richest man on the planet, am a college dropout, and you are not.
"Because Bill Gates, richest man on the planet -- for now, anyway -- is a college dropout, and you are not.
"Because Paul Allen, the third richest man on the planet, dropped out of college, and you did not.
"And for good measure, because Michael Dell, No. 9 on the list and moving up fast, is a college dropout, and you, yet again, are not.
"Hmm... you're very upset. That's understandable. So let me stroke your egos for a moment by pointing out, quite sincerely, that your diplomas were not attained in vain. Most of you, I imagine, have spent four to five years here, and in many ways what you've learned and endured will serve you well in the years ahead. You've established good work habits. You've established a network of people that will help you down the road. And you've established what will be lifelong relationships with the word 'therapy.' All that of is good. For in truth, you will need that network. You will need those strong work habits. You will need that therapy.
"You will need them because you didn't drop out, and so you will never be among the richest people in the world. Oh sure, you may, perhaps, work your way up to No. 10 or No. 11, like Steve Ballmer. But then, I don't have to tell you who he really works for, do I? And for the record, he dropped out of grad school. Bit of a late bloomer.
"Finally, I realize that many of you, and hopefully by now most of you, are wondering, 'Is there anything I can do? Is there any hope for me at all?' Actually, no. It's too late. You've absorbed too much, think you know too much. You're not 19 anymore. You have a built-in cap, and I'm not referring to the mortar boards on your heads.
"Hmm... you're really very upset. That's understandable. So perhaps this would be a good time to bring up the silver lining. Not for you, Class of '00. You are a write-off, so I'll let you slink off to your pathetic $200,000-a-year jobs, where your checks will be signed by former classmates who dropped out two years ago.
"Instead, I want to give hope to any underclassmen here today. I say to you, and I can't stress this enough: leave. Pack your things and your ideas and don't come back. Drop out. Start up.
"For I can tell you that a cap and gown will keep you down just as suredly as these security guards dragging me off this stage are keeping me down..."
"In fact, as I look out before me today, I don't see a thousand hopes for a bright tomorrow. I don't see a thousand future leaders in a thousand industries. I see a thousand losers.

Do you agree with his line of thought??
Speech culled from here
Every day, we all start on a clean slate – 24 new, shiny hours to fill as we see fit. So, do you spend those hours building lasting relationships with family and friends? Or do you spend them in the pursuit of meaningless endeavors? When it is all said and done, the phrase “you can’t take it with you” applies to everyone—no exceptions. But, what you can do is leave a lasting legacy of faith, hope, and love, leave your footprints in the sands of time, leave your name on people's lips, leave your presence in people's hearts...
Sequel to The things that truly matter, I've managed to compile a list of things that do not matter, i mean DO NOT MATTER!! at all. Please feel free to make the list longer with your ideas!
1.Sports Results: Competitive sports are great. They provide hours of entertainment and fellowship. They can unite a family, friends, or even a city around a common goal—to win the big game! However, when the buzzer sounds or the clock runs out, it was just that—a game. Keep it in perspective.
2.Unrealistic Expectations: Don’t let your joy be robbed by others’ unrealistic expectations of you—or your own expectations for yourself. Life is too short to feel like a perpetual failure. Find your own unique purpose for your life and do the best you can.
3. Destructive Emotions: Asking for forgiveness when you’ve wronged someone is important. Granting forgiveness when someone has hurt you is just as important. If someone has caused pain or heartache in your life, you are only hurting yourself by letting anger, resentment, or bitterness remain in your heart. Let it go and move on with your life.
4. Vanity: We live in an air-brushed world. And, it can cause us to be obsessed with how we look, feel, or measure up to others. Remember, your value is in who you are, not in how you look or what you do. You were created exclusively by God and for God.You are handmade, custom-designed, and fully loaded by God.
5. Technology: Modern conveniences can be wonderful things. The Internet helps businesses flourish. Cell phones provide a new level of safety by never being out of touch. While technology can be a positive in our lives, remember the significance of a face-to-face meeting or enjoying an entire dinner without texting. Nothing is more important than our personal relationships.
6. Wealth: The love of money is the root of all evil. Having money in and of itself is not evil; the love of money is. How you acquire it and what you do with it may be planting unwanted weeds—greed, excess, jealousy—that need to be pulled out by their roots. Living comfortably is a blessing. Being obsessed with wealth is a curse.
7. False Idols: Fame, fortune, power, and pleasure don’t really matter in the end. They are just false idols that we pursue because we think they’ll make us happy. But our real joy and satisfaction can only be found in God.
8. Social Media: Your amount of Facebook friends and Twitter followers do not matter at all (except for entrepreneurial purposes). Don't make a big deal out of it too, after all, in the next few years, more than half of them would be dormant
9. Complaints: We’re raising a generation of sh-t talkers. In your workplace this is a cancer. If you have issues with management, culture or your role & responsibilities, SPEAK UP. Don’t take those complaints and trash-talk the company or co-workers or even lecturers and classmates on lunch breaks and anonymous chat boards. If you can effectively communicate what needs to be improved, you have the ability to shape your surroundings and professional destiny. If you cannot, please keep your comments to yourself..
10. Worrying about the wrong people:The ladies of The Real Housewives of Orange County, they’ll survive without you. The family members and friends of The Kardashians, they won’t notice your absence if you stop watching their show. Even the private lives of your elected politicians and local public figures mean nothing in the grand scheme of your own life.
But your significant other, your friends, your children, your siblings, extended family members – these are the people who truly matter to you. Give them your time and attention. They’re the ones who deserve it.
11. Gossiping:Gossip is the evil. If you want to know something about someone, ask. Don’t assume; that’s how gossip grows and spreads. If you’ve talked to more than one person about something someone else is doing, it’s time to step forward and actually talk to the person you’ve been talking about. And if it’s truly ‘not your place’ to talk to this person, it’s likely ‘not your place’ to talk about them either.
Ultimately, you should focus on judging less, loving more, and resisting the temptation to gossip about others, or portray them in a poor light. Be impeccable with your words. Speak with integrity. Avoid using your words to gossip about others. Use the power of your voice to spread truth and love only.
Remember!, Happiness is easy when we let go of the things that do not matter...
I guess we've learned one or two things today. Feel free to write what shouldn't matter to you in the comment box!!..
One of my biggest hopes in life is that I will make a difference. I’d like this world to be a little better because I am in it.
However, “change the world” isn’t an easy item to put on a to-do list. Where do you even begin?
Here are eight great ways to change the world for a better. They’re all fairly quick – all things you could do today. Which will you pick?
(And if you think of any others as you’re reading these, leave a comment with your ideas. Let’s see how long we can get this list!)
#1: Smile At Everyone
It’s such a tiny thing, but it really does make a difference. Smile at people – the folks on the bus, or the receptionist at the office, for instance.
#2: Write a Letter to Someone You Love
If a letter sounds like it’ll take too long, how about a card or postcard? Write to your parents, or siblings, or a relative who you don’t see very often but who you care deeply about. Let them know how special they are to you.
#3: Create Something Unique
Being creative is a great way to change the world. It might not seem like much – but your poem, painting, tapestry, special recipe, blog post, etc, may well outlast you.
#4: Donate to Charity
Small donations add up, and if enough people give just a few dollars, lives can be changed. At this time of year in particular, you might want to think about giving to a charity close to your heart. If you’re not sure where to start, I’d recommend the UNICEF donations to charity.
#5: Sign a Petition
The world of politics can feel remote from our daily lives. Perhaps you currently live in a country where you dislike the governing party, or where you disagree with decisions being made. By signing a petition, you can help make your voice heard.
#6: Help Others
Commit to changing yourself and your life and your consciousness, and you will do for the world all that you need to. Follow your instinct regarding what you are meant to achieve, and follow it even blindly at times. In all of my experiences, I have found, people who are most happy, and whom are doing what they believe they are “meant” to be, are always, without fail, aiding someone else at the same time.
#7: Say “Thank You”
It’s such a tiny thing to do – but saying a heartfelt “thank you” can mean a huge amount to someone. If you’re in a management position at work, take the time to thank your subordinates for what they do. In your family, thank your partner, parents or kids.
#8: Give Your Time
Many of us don’t have much spare cash to give to charity – but we often overlook the other gifts that we can give, like time. Maybe you could stuff envelopes, knock on doors, shake a collection tin, or perform some other admin task.
There are loads of ways you could make a real difference in the world, today. What’re you going to do? If you’ve got ideas which aren’t on this list, add them in the comments!
Depending on your culture, this might feel a bit awkward. Give it a go anyway! People may still respond brilliantly to a smile.
Take it further: Give out free hugs.
Take it further: Look for a group or charity that asks for pen pals – perhaps writing to a sick child, or to someone in prison. Your letter or card could make all the difference in someone’s day.
If you don’t think you’re creative, try putting together photos into an album, or digital photos into a custom-made book.
Take it further: Offer your creative skills to a local youth group, school or retirement home. You could paint a mural, run a class, organize a concert …
Take it further: Fund-raise for a charity.
Take it further: Write to your representative, and make your concerns known personally. Letters have more impact than names on a petition.
Take it further: Write, phone or email someone in your community to thank them for the role they play.
Take it further: Offer particular expert skills. Perhaps you’re a web designer who could create (or update) a website for a small charity, for instance.
This reminds me of Gandhi’s admonishment, that we should all be the change that we wish to see in the world.
Note; The single greatest act we can undertake to change the world, is to change ourselves – for the better. Smiles, letters, thank you’s, and charity are all beneficial … but the one thing the world starves for are live living examples of possibility!
There are very few things in life that really matter...
We waste spend a lot of time worrying–worrying about what was, what might have
been, what should be, could be, will never be. We worry about the inevitable,
the possible, the probable, and the unlikely. We worry about what people think
and say and believe and how they feel. We worry about things that We cannot
change, cannot know, and will never control.
When it comes down to it, there are very few things in life that really matter. What matters most–and always–is what’s real and right in front of you and yours to value and cherish and protect. What matters most are the people you love and the people who love you. Once you whittle your life down to the essence, suddenly everything becomes easier.
Here's a list of what i think really matters in life;
- God
- Family
- Clean breath.
- Sound digestion.
- Good quality sleep.
- A daily connection with
nature—even watering your plants or taking a walk in the park count!
- Being able to keep your
promises.
- A dream to aspire to.
- A hobby or leisure activity
that soothes and ignites your soul.
- A real friend: someone you
can really talk to, cry before and laugh with.
- The comfort of a meal or
movie shared with family.
- The luxury of a place of
your own—even if it is a cosy little nook in a tiny home.
- The joy of coming back
to a home that invites you to relax.
- Celebrating the small
victories and joys of life rather than waiting for big dollops of good
news.
- Being able to see the silver
lining.
- Being able to listen before
you judge.
- Waking up with something
more than just routine work to look forward to.
- Going to bed knowing that you made someone’s day a little happier today.
Easier said than done, for sure. It is our nature to worry
and regret and lament. Such a waste of time. There are so few things that
really matter. Spend your time enjoying that which makes you the best person
you can be. If you don’t have that in your life now, then I wish you well in
finding it. If you do, and you’re still looking for more, then stop. Otherwise,
you will get lost in the muck and forget to notice that what you have is really
all you need.
Reach for the stars, but stay grounded in what makes you feel alive. Never take for granted that what surrounds you now will be there forever. Don’t overlook what you have in favor of looking for something better. Chances are that what you have is better than many people can ever imagine!
P.S; You can add to the list in the comment box! *winks*

Overnight, my life turned into a shadow of
its old self. My father became worse than over-protective as a result of what
happened. I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere without a female body-guard. I became
frustrated and my pain knew no bounds. Every night, I cried myself to sleep and
woke up with sore eyes. There was no night that I didn’t suffer from night
mares of being raped or abused. Inside me, I developed intense fear of the male
gender. If I came out of the house and saw a man, I would shiver like a leaf
despite the fact that I had an escort that followed me everywhere I went.
My situation was actually worse that I can
describe. Let me explain better! On a Sunday morning, while we were at church
as the pastor preached, I found myself turning right, left and centre hoping
that no man was going to come and attack me. And then, something mysterious
occurred. The Pastor who was preaching on what I didn’t care about began to
walk towards me. As he came from a distance, I was still relaxed until he was
very close to me and that was when my outburst began. In reflex, I began to
shout “Don’t come near me”. It was probably the most embarrassing day of that
Pastor’s life. To crown it up, I had to stop my schooling because of the
pregnancy.
I found nowhere to vent anger except on the
fact that boys where responsible for the damaged life that I now lived. Slowly
but painfully the venom in me towards men built up into gross hatred against
the opposite sex. My fear of them graduated into solid hatred towards them. I
never wanted to have anything to do with any boy or man.
I looked up at Henry who was deeply
engrossed in the wild story of my life. I noticed that he struggled to stop
tears from flowing down his face and had concern written in his eyes.
“So what happened to the baby?” he asked
gently as he stretched forth his hand towards mine. If he had done that a few
days ago, I would have given him an ugly scowl but I found myself allowing him
to hold me.
After pausing for a while, I responded
sadly “I lost the baby”.
I was watching an interview Steve Jobs granted in 1994, and he was asked why he and Steve Wozniak kept on going when they were making the very first apple computer which was Apple 1. He said something like; we figured out that we really had nothing lose, if we made the Apple 1 and it was a flop no problem, if it turns out to be a great product then fine.
Knowing that there was really nothing to lose in the venture made them give their all to realizing the product. and I quote from Steve Jobs again, the only thing you truly have is time, make good use of it...
and really you have nothing to lose, follow your dream, follow your heart especially if you're still young.
How long will i be intimidated
by the voice of my most hated?
For how long will this continue
Before it changes to a different tune
I ask myself the same questions
Must i subsume my interest for theirs?
Even if i did
Would they notice my good deed?
I spin round in confusion
My intellect can no longer comprehend this
why must i be the most wanted?
Why cant humans or once be glad?
For once consider my emotion
my emotion they hurt with intent of destruction
I sought to free myself from much guilt
i can no longer destroy my confidence built.
I realize
Finally I have the truth discovered
No longer would i seek to please others
Becaause even if i did,
Critics would still rise in numerous orders
Life itself is a personal race
"Survival of the fittest" so they say
I have decided in my most brilliant sense
That they can have their best say
But i would have my own way
My world, My Life, My say, My rules...

I spent weeks in the hospital before I
regained consciousness. Even after becoming conscious, I began to have
nightmares were men pursued me with a bid to rape me or molest me. I woke up
either screaming or crying profusely. 15th May 2007 marked a
negative turning point in my life and the beginning of my hatred for the male
gender. As if that was not enough, something even worse happened that
practically threatened the course of my life. The night I arrived home from the
hospital, my parents insisted on having a conversation with me.
The look on their faces read fear and
extreme uncertainty. After an awkward moment of silence, my father broke out
gently “Simi! your mother and I love you gently”
“And we want the best for you” my mother’s
voice followed him.
“What’s happening?” I immediately probed.
The fear in their eyes heightened as they turned away from me. “Daddy,Mummy,
I’m the last person you should hide anything from” I voiced out in pain.
“It’s just that...” My father’s voice broke
away. Just then, the door bell rang and in came visitors who came to sympathize
with us. Truth was, I really didn’t feel like seeing anybody. It took hours
before the last set of visitors came. Through it all, I felt very scared and
uncertain.
Out of anger, I barged into my parents room
and screamed “Just tell me what the problem is!”
“You’re pregnant” My father responded
angrily.
Yeah!!!! its a new season coming out soon!!!! watch the previous video here http://www.iweanyawrites.com/ 2013/02/ release-of-first-episode.html .... This season is going to be gbam!!! watch out...
NB: Its why I (Iweanya Victor)
On the 15th May 2007, I had just
finished my examinations as a junior student in Thelma International School. I
hopped out of class excited when my father’s driver yanked me angrily and
stated that we had to get home immediately. That was his usual style so I
wasn’t surprised and obeyed willingly.
As soon as we got home, I ran up into my
room angrily wondering why I didn’t get the chance to celebrate the end of
junior class with my other class-mates. I was still fuming when I heard a
gentle knock on the door. It was Uncle Musa, my father’s driver. Before I could
utter another word, he pounced on me.
I tried to scream but he held my mouth and
promised to kill me if I told anyone about it. The next five (5) minutes took
me on a journey of misery that was going to lead to even more problems for my
life. Uncle Musa raped me and when he was done, he threw me on the ground like
a useless rag and left. We never heard of him or saw him after then.
That night, when my parents returned; I was
about to inform them on what had happened to me when a knock was heard at the
door. On opening it, a gang of young teenage boys came into the house with guns
in their hands. After demanding for all the money my parents had, the oldest looking
boy dragged me angrily and threw me on the floor. At that point, my father
began to beg them not to do anything to me while my mother was crying
hysterically on the ground. Their pleas fell on deaf ears and one by one, each
of these rascal teenage boys raped me.
By the time they were done, I was thrown on
the floor mercilessly. The last thing I saw was my mother running towards me
before I went into a black out.
I want to really really apologize for my chronic absence from my blog... Fashionova 2013 took my brain juice. But i'm back and better. Below starts this wonderful series;
It’s not my fault that I hate boys and can’t
stand them. I just detest their sight and nothing can change my mind. Being the
only child of my parents, I grew up alone with a very abnormal childhood. My
father was very protective about me and so ensured that my life fell between
home, school and church. It was entirely frustrating and made me a loner. I had
gotten used to the life that my parents had designed for me to live until the
15th of May 2007. That night changed my perspective about the male gender
and gave me a story that I didn’t like to reckon with.
It was six (6) years since that event took
place and truth is, I hadn’t gotten over what happened to me that night. I sat
in class after a lecture and pondered about the events of my life when I felt a
gentle tap on my back followed by the words “Hello Simi!” It was another
disgusting boy. Henry had been bugging me to be his girlfriend since my
inception into 100level but despite how I disappointed him, he never gave up on
me. Before thinking any further, I uttered “This guy, wetin I do you now???”
“I just wanted to say hi” he responded
politely. His reply was followed by a hiss from me. Not minding my response he
continued “Can I sit with you?”
“No” I practically screamed
“Well then, I’d stand” he muttered as he
stood beside me. “What manner of idiot is this?” I wondered in my mind. After a
few awkward minutes of silence, he voiced out gently “You know, not all guys
are the same, some are positively different”. In shock, I raised my and stared
at him.
“That’s a lie, you’re all wolves” I quickly
asserted
“Some of us are actually sheep” he
continued with a smile. His words made me laugh and reply gently “But you’re
all still animals”
“Umh Simi! Every human is an animal....a
social animal”
As much as I tried to engage control, I
found myself laughing more and more at his really hilarious nature. It felt
really awkward but we actually got talking and spent most of the time laughing.
“Tell me, why do you hate guys so much???”
Henry asked with a puzzled but concerned look on his face.
After hesitating for a while, I replied “15th
May 2007”
I was opportune to walk the corridors of my Alma mater again about a month ago, although this post is way overdue, I made a promise to myself I was going to write on it, well, here I am.
When I look down the memory lane, I can vividly see that my most cherished memories are those of my high school. Of all the educational institutes that I’ve been associated with, this is the ONLY institute that the most memories were made.
A wave of nostalgia sweeps through me when i chance across the pictures taken back then. A sudden desire, a longing to go back, sit in those classes, chat with those great classmates... I know it is next to impossible, but then, my wishes are mine and so is my imagination.
I happened to make some of my best friends for life here at my Alma mater. We were very silly then, good at studies, fun loving and a bit of rule breakers!
Coming to talk about friends, I guess I could go on forever and ever. Jacqueline, Pauline, Milan, Nnedi, Collete, Ilege, Effiong, Ush, Ojay, Achu, Tchiza… (Common names withheld) are SOME people whom I’d never forget throughout my life. My high school friends are the most unique and different group of girls you will ever meet and I wouldn't trade them for the world. We stood together through thick and thin (Trust me! there were actual thick and thin times). My friends weren't badasses but we're definitely not conformists, we're definitely not quiet, and we're definitely NOT sinless. We damn well knew how to have a good time. This was obvious if you took a walk through the halls any day of the school year... Their inclusion in my life made it all the more colourful and worthy.
My favourite time of the day (besides lunch time) was the time between each class. Screaming obscenities and inappropriate random gestures were popular in those three minutes we had to run to our locker, run two, three floors up, and pray to the several crosses you passed along the way that you were not late because that would result in flogging or punishment,(personally I preferred the latter but the former was always better).
I'm really proud of where I come from and where I've been. And recently, I've never been more proud of my high school experience.
So it was a Catholic school. Catholic school = rules. (Trust me; no one felt these rules as hard as I felt them). Now, some of my favourite rules applied to the uniform. Oh yeah, about the uniform. It was kind of unique, I guess you could say. We wore sky-blue skirts to our knees, white-nit collared shirts, the same shoes and socks that made us look like products from factories. I wouldn't trade my ‘Sunday white’ for the world. It was elegant. A few months into to the first year, though hard to accept, the rules didn't even matter anymore. You had to get used to them fast. It was survival of the fittest. The girls who couldn't handle listening attentively and not obeying diligently were kicked out.
As far as the all-girls, no boys’ thing goes - I kinda liked it. Not only was being boy-less beneficial in the classroom, but also at lunch time. Nothing could stop us from getting our food. Food was like a fresh antelope and we were like tigers. We literally raced to the refectory most times, played with our food - personified our fried yams, stuffed scones in our mouths like boxing teeth protectors, and shoved as many pineapples as we could in our mouth. Being normal was not an option.
I make it sound like it was a lot of fun, but we actually worked our brains off. We worked hard and I guess that's why the fun we had seemed to be so much more fun. We needed each other to survive the day. We needed each other's support to make it through the brutal resumption tests, midterms and examinations or just when we're having a really bad day.
I could brag on and on defending my high school but I, honestly, there were also ugly moments, best left aside.
Well, my school gave me some very valuable lessons in life. I learnt to revere my teachers and elders here. That, according to me, is one lesson which is best if inculcated at an early age. Though, at initial stages, this learning was in a crude form,(u know, your class rep hitting the locker in a coded manner, standing up and all saying in a monotone…”Goood moooorrrnniiinnng maaaaa”aaammmmm”! Back then, it was a ritualistic early morning song that we thought we had to sing on seeing the chalkbearers!), later, it became a part and parcel of our lives. Then, we were taught to SEEK for opportunities. True, for some days, we had to be spoon-fed, but later, it was thrust upon us that we were all warriors who had to fight for ourselves, and all by ourselves. This was one lesson that is really helping me in my life ahead.
There are these times when I become so desperate because, the harder I try to reach out to the memories of those days, the more they seem to slip away from me.
As my previous posts, this one doesn’t follow any particular order. Just that I have typed at a stretch for 45 minutes, and in a random order, mentioned whatever came into my mind. I do hope I have succeeded in stirring some old memories of yours. Believe me, nothing like reliving those old days in the backdrop of your memories. After all, Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose. And, I strongly believe that….”The leaves of memory seemed to make a mournful rustling in the dark.”…God bless!!!!
P.S: It been quite a while here, well, this time, I’m here to stay, Enjoy reading!!!
For several days, my boss remained at the hospital and his condition only got worse. He had been in intense coma for three (3) days. The doctor’s report had not been too helpful as the Chief Medical Officer clearly stated that he couldn’t identify what the problem was. As difficult as it was, I had to start rendering prayers on his behalf.
At work, gossip spread like wild fire around the various members of staff. Some stated that he was into occultpractices and his sins were catching up with him, others said that he had been cheating on his wife since he became CEO and his judgement day had arrived while very few stated that his mean attitude towards me was responsible for his sudden attack.
“You serve a living God!” one of my colleagues whispered at me early in the morning, during work hours. I pondered on what she said for a while before continuing with my duties. One month into the CEO’s stay at the hospital, the company received a call stating that his condition had become far worse than expected and that he was very close to the grave. Without holding any board meeting, the Managing director of Topaz Consultants insisted that every member of the office go and see him that day. The drive to the hospital was faster than expected.
On getting to the hospital, the state of Mr Akanbi- My boss was a terrible sight to behold. He had a gray and disgusting substance coming out of his mouth, nose, eyes and ears and the smell was simply horrific. As soon as we stepped into the office, he opened his eyes slightly causing some of us to step back in fear. And then, the most ridiculous thing happened; my boss began to cough profusely. A quick call was made to the doctor who rushed into the room wondering what the problem was. As he made efforts to check him, Mr Akanbimade moves signalling that the doctor should stop.
At that point, he began to make funny confessions about how he wanted to make my life miserable until I killed myself. I simply stared in shock. “Why would you want to do that to an innocent man like me?” I whispered gently in tear.
Still coughing, he responded in pain “I wanted to get even after the slap you gave me when we were in school”. At that point, I recalled who he was and what had happened while we were in school.
Before I could respond, Mr Akanbi gave up the ghost.

4runner says infiltration is not just music but a wake up call to both Christians and non Christians. The song talks about some real issues that occur and how hypocrisy has been a problem in the church. This song is one you will not be disappointed to hear. So watch out for infiltration.
Maybe I should have taken my CEO’s words more seriously but then I didn’t really understand what he meant. Although his face looked familiar, I couldn’t figure out where we had met.
Two (2) weeks into the job, I was already frustrated. My boss made life a living hell for me. At the slightest mistake, he would shout at me; even when I did the right thing, he would say it wasn’t good enough. In fact, he found fault in every-thing I did regardless of how much effort I put into it. I left work angry every single day and it became a concern to my mother. I already thought of quitting one (1) month into the job; it was that bad.
However, knowing how difficult it was for me to get the job, I exercised patience. Every night, I would cry at the thought of how terrible my day at work was and how worse it was going to be the next day. At work, I lost focus and it began to reflect in my duties causing my boss to shout at me even more.
One particular day, my boss asked me to serve him coffee early in the morning. Recalling how he always disliked the taste of my coffee, I took my time to prepare the coffee ensuring that the sugar was just enough. After serving the hot coffee, I walked into his office calmly acting like we were best friends. As soon as I approached him, I bent to place the coffee on his table when I tripped and ended up pouring the hot coffee on him and the papers arranged on his table. You should have seen the way he screamed at me like as if I had just killed his mother. I was almost in tears but didn’t want to further embarrass myself and so kept mute while he rained insults and abuses on me. Then to crown it, he landed a slap on my face. The slap was so loud that I’m sure the entire office must have heard it. It took a kind of grace for me not to lift up my hands against him. At this point, the tears began to roll.
The following days became far more horrible than I could imagine. To pass across instructions for me, he screamed at me and hit me at any available instance. Eventually, my boss became a prayer point that I had presented to God. For a while, it felt like my prayers were not leaving the roof of my office or my house. My boss only got worse in his actions towards me.
Two (2) weeks after the slap that I had received from my boss, something unusual happened. He requested that I go and get some files from the next office which took a little while. By the time I returned to him, he was sprouting on the floor.
“Oh my God!” I muttered as I rushed to call a nearby hospital.
4runner, a rapper with a positive message and a Christ Ambassador drops the piece he titled "one man cypher+shout out+lol". The rapper who has released two singles titled "grateful" and "no one greater" featuring singer, henrisoul drops a fun track. He did a one verse rap with a positive message, gave shout outs and put a bit of humor. So listen and enjoy, remember joy is a fruit of the spirit. Gal 5:22. Have a laugh.

Ten (10) years later
I had been searching for a job as long as I
could remember and it was the most horrible feeling ever. Let me try and
explain; I had been to fifteen (15) different companies and all of them had the
same reply “You don’t have the potential to be employed in our company”. The
words tore my heart into two and always left me in tears. I’m a 1st
Class student of Banking and Finance from a reputable university and yet can’t
secure a job in any company I apply to. How more terrible could my life get???
“Mama, I’m tired of life” I voiced out in
tears to my mother
With a dim light on her face, she responded
“Kenechukwu Osita! Don’t worry, God is in charge”
Somehow, I felt like I had a curse on my
head that was responsible for all the bad luck and misfortune in my life. Day
after day, night after night, I would spend in tears wondering what I did to
deserve a slap on my heart. This went on for a while until one blessed morning
while I was thinking of what to feast on for the day; I received a mail asking
me to come for an interview in a company that I didn’t apply to. It seemed
mysterious but somehow, I decide to see the finger of God in it all.
I dressed up the next day and found my way
to Topaz Consultants Ltd. It was the best interview ever as nobody tackled me
and for some reason it felt like the job had been reserved for me. Two (2)
weeks later, I received a letter of appointment asking me to come and commence
as the personal assistant to the Chief Executive Officer with a salary of half
a million for starting.
“Oh
my God!” I muttered as I embraced my mother with joy written all over my face.
In one second, God had changed my luck; things were already looking better.
I resumed work the next day and was
introduced to the CEO instantly.
“Good morning Sir!” I greeted in a fine
baritone voice.
With a sheepish smile, he responded “Good
morning!”
There was something familiar about his face
but I just couldn’t place my finger on it.
I was still thinking deeply on these things when his voice jerked me
back to reality
“Welcome to Topaz Consultants where
individuals get EVEN!!!”

Professor Okolo peered through his glasses
at his students as he awaited an answer to the question that he had posed
earlier. After a few minutes, his voice bellowed through the class as he spoke
“Doesn’t anybody know the definition of Wage Solidarism??” After a fruitless
search, he pointed at a male student who seemed like he was trying his best to
avoid answering the question. Fidgeting, the young lad arose as he whispered
some words which nobody could hear.
“Speak loudly” Professor Mukoro responded
angrily.
“Sir I don’t know the answer” the male
student replied gently.
“You should be ashamed of yourself, I have
defined Wage solidarism more than fifty times in this class” Professor voiced
in a loud and grieved tone.
“Sorry Sir” the male student whispered with
his eyes fixed on the floor.
“Sorry for yourself....Does anybody want to
help him out for a reward from me” Professoror Mukoro asked with a sheepish
smile on his face.
At that point, a hand shot up. It was
another male student. At the nudge of Professor Mukoro, he stood up and
answered “Wage Solidarism can simply be defined as equalizing wage across all
skill and seniority level”. His intelligent answer was followed by a round of
applause from the class. With excitement, the lecturer urged him to come to the
front of the class with the other student who had failed the question.
“Now time for my reward” Professor Mukoro
voiced in a mysterious tone.
“Yes Sir!” the student who answered the
question correctly replied.
“Please slap this lad for not responding to
my question correctly” Professor continued as he pointed to the student that
had failed to attempt his question.
“But Sir, I can’t”
“Well if you don’t, I will slap you or tell
him to slap you”
This is madness the student thought as he
spoke “Alright sir”.
Turning to the student who was to receive
the slap he whispered “I’m sorry” and gave him the hottest slap of his life
that caused him to stagger.
